The fact is, our brightest students hardly need instruction other than few nudges because they are naturally smart and motivated. With the right combination of motivation and talent, these star students naturally shine. In my preaching practicum classes, I do not believe I needed to do much to make my best Bible student with public speaking gifts better.
In my observation on martial arts instruction, the best instructors are the ones who can help the average housewife to defend herself. There are many in martial arts who do not even need the training, especially those with big muscles and natural athletic talents. Why? It is because no one usually messes with such people. The ones who need it most are usually the ones who are least motivated and talented. The best instructors can bring out the best in the worst students. Why then do most average instructors favor their natural students? It is because they are lazy. My statement is not PC, but I said it. It is easy to show off star students and take credit for the fruit of their labor. It is however quite tough to help the below average student rise to average.
