I'm not sure where the story is now, but it was hand-written and it still sticks in my mind. It talks about a family that decides to use the money from their Christmas gifts for each other to help the poor and those who are truly in need. It has been the family tradition for a long time. Even though I cannot recall the plot of the story, its lesson sticks in my mind through all these years.

I think quite often, we find it easy to give only to those we love. There is nothing wrong with that. However, I think the Gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ, was given to those who truly need it. Christmas then is not about giving only. It is not about God's material gift. Neither is it about family, though it is a meaningful time to spend celebrating the birth of our Lord through family time. Christmas is about giving to those who truly need it, in the same way God had given us the Gift while "we were yet sinners."

The message is very confusing.

The church should not leave it up to chance when dealing with its finance. Neither should the believer. Giving must be intentional.
